Permanent Hair Removal History
General Information About Electrolysis
Electrolysis is a procedure that has been used for over 125 years to permanently destroy hair follicles. This fact has been well documented in medical studies and in literature. In 1875, Dr. Charles Michel, an ophthalmologist, invented the procedure to remove ingrown eyelashes. There are many temporary and even long-term methods of hair removal on the market today, but electrolysis remains the only permanent way to rid the face and body of unwanted hair forever. The procedure involves the utilization of a fine pre-sterilized disposable needle/probe that is expertly inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A small amount of electrical energy is discharged into the hair follicle, which destroys the hair growth tissue. When this procedure is skillfully accomplished, the regenerative cells of the follicle are permanently destroyed. There are three different modalities that can be used to accomplish permanent hair removal.
Permanent Hair Removal Solutions
- Electrolysis - Also referred to as galvanic current, this method uses direct current (DC) to chemically cause destruction of the hair follicle. The patient is given a moist ground to hold during the treatment. The needle/probe is inserted into the hair follicle and a small measured amount of electrical energy is applied for whole seconds into the follicle. Electrolysis/galvanic current destroys the hair follicle chemically. With this method one or more sterile probes/needles may be used to simultaneously treat different hair follicles.
- Thermolysis - Also known as high frequency or shortwave, this method uses alternating current (AC) which creates heat to destroy the hair follicle. This method is very quick. One needle/probe is used.
- The Blend - Also referred to as dual modality, this method uses both of the above currents simultaneously or sequentially to achieve dual action destruction of the hair follicle. Most often, a single sterile needle/probe is used for this procedure.
Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that removes unwanted hair permanently. All three modalities explained above are true Electrolysis. If a fine wire probe/needle is not used than electrolysis is not being performed.
